Abstract

The purpose of this study lies in providing basic data for efficient guidance to the clinical nursing education by grasping stressors experienced by nursing students during paychiatric nursing practice.
The subjects of thd study were 128 students of R.C. Junior College of Nursing.
The date were collected by means of a self-reported questionnares from Aug. 19 to Nov. 16, 1991 Data analysis included percentage, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, by using the SPSS program.

@EN 1. Viewed from each of the categories of the stressores experienced by nursing students during psychiatric nursing practice, professional knowledge and skill was the most stressful category at a mean 3.36, where as the score mean of role
modeling
was 3.29, educational enviroment 3.18, conflict with patients 3.17s, conflict as a profession 3.15, workload 3.06. The lowest score was 3.02 on the category of the interpersonal relationship.
2. Considering the perceptional level of each stressor involved in each category.
In educational environment 'lack of pace and facilities given to the clinical practice' was most stressful factor at a mean 3.297.
In role modeling, 'lack of staff nurses knowledge and sill' was the most stressful factor at a mean 3.305.
In workload of pratice, 'overloading of clinical assignment' was the most stressful factor at a mean 3.297.
In conflict as a profession, 'lack of self-confidence as a profession'(being acknowledged and maintaining independence in their role practice) was the most stressful factor at a mean 3.258.
In professional knowledge and skill, 'lack of abilities of assessment nursing problems and promptness of intervention' was the most stressful factor at a mean 3.602.
In conflict of interpersonal relationship 'being treated by nurses impolietely' was the most stressful factor at a mean 3.187.
In conflict with patients, 'construction of rapport' was the most at stressful factor a mean 3.367.
3. Statistically there were significant differences between general characteristics and each category; opinions on the psychiatric patients in the category of education at environment, the status of mental health in the category of the
professional
knowledge and skill, and the category of the interpersonal relationship. (p>.05)
